The Big Block Come Back & Return of The Nerd
I've been posting on Facebook a lot more often over the last few months. I've had a lot of stories about things going on in life that are just too long to put on the most popular platforms. So I've decided to start blogging again.
I'm not going to be keeping any type of posting schedule. Just be writing when I have something to write about. I'll be sharing links to this blog on Facebook and Twitter.
Don't know how long I'll be active on this blog but I hope you come along for this run. Now here's my first return offering.
Return of The Nerd?
Last February/March, I had laser cataract surgery on both my eyes. Not only was I able to see better, I didn't have to wear glasses any more. I loved this because I have always thought my glasses made me look nerdy.
In September of last year, I went for my 6th month check up. My vision was 20-30 because of an astigmatism I had developed but I didn't see (no pun intended) the need to spend money on glasses.
Over the last couple months, I have noticed a deterioration of my long distance vision. I just couldn't see far away as well as I had last year. I went to the optometrist. My vision is now 20-50. My astigmatism had gotten worse. Dr. Warden told me I needed prescription lenses to correct this.
This was really a blow to my ego. I never expected to have to wear glasses again. This really frustrated me. Before I left the office I had to pick out new frames. I hated every single pair I tried on. They either looked like ladies glasses or made me look like Charlies Nelson Riley or Harry Carey.
Finally, I chose the one the pair that I hated the least. It will take 12 days until, I can pick them up and start wearing them.
I was still angry and frustrated when I left the office but I calmed down after I had lunch with my wife. She helped me process the issue and Panera provided the comfort food: French onion soup and steak & cheese sandwich.
If I can see better and my headaches and eye strain stop, I guess it's something I can deal with again.
But I feel like I'm in a game of "Sorry" as far as my vision is concerned and I've been sent "home". But I'll be okay. I'll share a picture when I get my new specs. Hope they don't make me look too nerdy.
Not to be dismissive of your problem but when you get your glasses try this. Take one of your wife's long hairs and drape it over the front of your right eye lens so it's smack dab in the middle of your vision running northeast to southwest. Then pretend you can't remove it. That's been my world since 1995. But as I am so fond of saying....there are probably anywhere from tens of thousands to maybe a million or more people in this world who would absolutely LOVE to have my level of eyesight. So I've made peace with it. I went back to wearing glasses decades ago and while it sucks, there are far worse things. Good luck re-acclimating to that weight on your nose and those earpieces rubbing the tops of your ears raw until they toughen up again. :)
ReplyDeleteMake that "the bridge of your nose".
